Lavender (Population) has been regarded as the King of Lavenders. (Population) is the perferred Lavender of perfumers and is a very high therapeutic grade. The different soil, temperature, precipitation, etc. contributes to some subtle changes in scent. Lavender (Population) has a smoother more floral scent which is somewhat sweeter and a little more mellow than other Lavenders.
Herbalist regard Lavender as the most useful and versatile essential oil for therapeutic purposes. Lavender is the essential oil most commonly associated with burns and healing of the skin. The scent of Lavender is said to have a calming effect on the body and it can be used to reduce anxiety, stress and promote sleep. It also has antiseptic and analgesic properties which will ease the pain of a burn and prevent infection. It also has cytophylactic properties that promote rapid healing and help reduce scarring.
Properties of Lavender (Population) Essential Oil include analgesic, anti-convulsive, anti-depressant, anti-phlogistic, antirheumatic, antseptic, antispasmodic, antiviral, bactericide, carminative, cholagogue, cicatrisant, cordial, cytophylactic, decongestant, deodorant, and as a diuretic.
Blends well with most oils, especially citrus and florals. Also clove, cedarwood, clary sage, pine, geranium, vetiver, patchouli, etc.
Avoid high doses during pregnancy. Generally non-toxic. Useful for acne, sore muscle pain, headches, athlete's foot, boils, bruses, burns, dandruff, inflammations, insect bites, lice, ringworm, spots, and all skin types.
